Steadfast Sands:

Get Busy Living Today

“Get busy living or get busy dying.” – Stephen King

Time is an eternal force in our lives that cannot be halted, impeded, or slowed. Your journey through life will keep progressing one way or another, regardless of whether you try to stop or deny it. In the most reductionist terms, you should look at every situation and ask yourself, “What can I do that’s productive?” Because ultimately, you’re either engaging in actions that are gainful, or you’re not. If you’re not working to improve, to move forward, to tackle the obstacles in your life, then you’ll become stagnant or worse regressive as a result of your inaction or fruitless upsets. It was Geoffrey Chaucer who said, “time and tide wait for no man.” Take a moment to compose yourself, to strategize, and then begin moving forward. Change what you can change, accept, and then work around those things which you cannot. Get busy living, right now.

“How much good inside a day? Depends how good you live ‘em.” – Shel Silverstein

We cannot choose which challenges impede us as we journey through life, but we can certainly control how we react to them and which actions we take as a result. Resiliency in spite of all obstacles should be your goal so that you may progress regardless, always aspiring to achieve new heights of prosperity and satisfaction. So many opportunities are missed when you get stuck lamenting the trials and tribulations of your life. Allowing yourself time to process a loss or an unfortunate setback is productive and should not be neglected. However, ruminating on that which cannot be changed will only harm you further. Seek to move forward, to overcome everything in spite of, or even because of, the hand you’ve been dealt. Keep asking yourself, “What can I do that’s productive?”

“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

Any forward progress, is advancement none the less. The most intimidating of mountains must still be climbed by placing one foot in front of the other. Strive to do anything you choose to undertake well, but most important of all is simply to never stop doing, to never stop moving forward. Because again, even the smallest victories are successes regardless, and should be embraced. Every step forward you take will help empower you to take that next step with increased conviction. Never give up, always keep moving forward, growing and getting stronger, because your level of success is unquestionably dependent on these things.

“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” – William James

Even the smallest of stones, when skipped across a body of water, will always produce ripples. Verily, so too will the seemingly smallest of decisions you make in life produce waves that impact the world around you. Your beliefs and the actions that stem from them are important not just for your own success and satisfaction, but for everyone else’s as well. Don’t for a second think that your decisions don’t matter, even if you feel insignificant in the moment. Keep improving, growing and being the best version of yourself that you can be. Make the best of what you have to offer, even if it seems small.

“We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.” – Dolly Parton

You can only do so much with the hand you’ve been dealt. The goal is to take advantage of any resource you do have, to always do the best you can do at any given moment, to never miss out on opportunities because you’ve failed to recognize them. Any forward progress is better than no forward progress. Do not allow yourself to succumb to the challenges in your life. Instead, persevere and prosper. You get to choose how you’re going to act, each and every day. Be the master of your own perspective, don’t squander the gifts you’ve been given because they seem insignificant.
