Spirit Of The Deep:

The Trials And Tribulations Of Peace

“It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

There are no shortcuts on the journey towards inner peace. There will always be factors that expedite or impede your personal growth, but there is no way to avoid the lessons you must ultimately learn. Furthermore, each of us on this journey are at this very moment on a different stretch of our own path. This is why it can be very difficult to share the lessons you’ve learned with those around you. They may not now, or even ever, be ready to understand them. And if they in fact are ready, don’t forget that knowing the path is very different from walking the path.

“You will find peace not by trying to escape your problems, but my confronting them courageously. You will find peace not in denial, but in victory.” – J. Donald Walters

Innate to us all, avoidance is perhaps the most powerful defense mechanism we possess. Of course, there are plenty of damaging situations in the universe that are likely worth avoiding. However, when we avoid too much, we never develop the skills necessary to overcome the multitude of challenges we will surely face throughout our lives. When engaging in avoidance for self protection, be careful that you are not instead making yourself more vulnerable, for the more you endure the stronger you can become.

“To experience peace does not mean that your life is always blissful. It means that you are capable of tapping into a blissful state of mind amidst the normal chaos of a hectic life.” –Jill Bolte Taylor

No one, anywhere, will ever have the luxury of enjoying an existence entirely free from hardship. This is why it is essential to harden your mind and spirit against the difficulties of the world, so that you may tap into a state of being that exudes peace even in the face of misery. To remain at peace in the midst of tragedy is one of the most empowering feelings a person can experience.

“No person, no place, and no thing has any power over us, for ‘we’ are the only thinkers in our mind. When we create peace and harmony and balance in our minds, we will find it in our lives.” – Louise L. Hay

As you cultivate an increasingly resilient inner peace, you will become aware that external forces which once upset you have now become increasingly painless. This realization of your progress will in turn help to propel you towards overcoming the remaining obstacles you’ll face as you journey through the world. As a result of your growing empowerment, you will become better able to create the life you want for yourself as well as others.
