Seaboard Stillness:

The Peace That Swells Within

“Peace is the result of retraining your mind to process life as it is, rather than as you think it should be.” – Wayne Dyer

Many make the mistake of believing that inner peace can be achieved through the shaping of the external world. If only I had or could do a certain thing, then I would know peace, they say to themselves. The truth though is that peace must emanate from within, from the shaping of one’s perspective on life, as there will always be another mountain to climb.

“Peace is a day-to-day problem, the product of a multitude of events and judgments. Peace is not an ‘is,’ it is a ‘becoming.’” – Haile Selassie

Though it is unquestionably important to overcome the challenges of your environment, true lasting peace can only ever be obtained through a positive interpretation of these challenges. No matter how balanced you think you are, life will undoubtedly place obstacles in your path that attack your resolve. It is impossible to be entirely physically prepared for the multitude of problems that will surely come your way, which is why peace must be a state of mind, an outlook that you carry with you always.

“You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level.” – Eckhart Tolle

The events of your life may erode or damage your inner peace, but that peace can always be regained, mended or born anew, crystalizing into a form even more robust than what you previously thought possible. This is a process that stems from looking deep within yourself and recognizing or rediscovering who you are, what your values are and why.

“While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it even more fully in your heart.” – Saint Francis Of Assisi

Saying the right words to others, words that reflect a positive or stoic outlook on life, is easy. However, many arrive at this ability without adopting or really understanding the principles of which they so openly speak. Never forget that real lasting peace comes only from exploring the depths of your inner self and examining your own thoughts and values. Only then can you learn to harmonize with the world around you.
