Harmonious Shores:

Finding Peace Within Yourself

“Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.” – Albert Einstein

Overcoming the obstacles life throws at you can be extremely demanding. It’s very easy to become frustrated, overwhelmed or shaken to the core in such a way that maintaining a sense of inner peace in the face of external problems quickly becomes untenable. Whether the challenges you face are intrinsic to the physical world or are created by the choices of other people, never forget that peace must ultimately arise from within. It will not be attained by beating life into submission but instead can only be achieved through understanding.

“Do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace.” – Dalai Lama

Cultivating inner peace is a never-ending journey. It is a pursuit wherein your resolve must constantly be repaired, tirelessly maintained in the face of overwhelming trials that all too often are created by the behavior of others. Remember, you are the master of your own perspective. Do not let the indiscretions or cruelties of those around you impede this. Do not allow them to force a perspective on you that runs counter to your spirit. If you waver in your resolve, recompose yourself and rebuild. You are in control of your own reality.

“If you cannot find peace within yourself, you will never find it anywhere else.” – Marvin Gaye

Those with a fragile mental resolve, unable to endure the tribulations of the outer world, are doomed to see the deleterious effects of the constant onslaught creep into their internal world. To prevent this, or to overcome the damage that has already been done, you must take control of your own perspective. Take a step back, rediscover who you are and what you stand for, what you believe in as well as desire. Rebuild your mental framework, restore or cultivate anew your sense of purpose. Look deep within yourself. It’s never too late to be the person you want to be or live the life you want to live.
